Elegant wedding bouquets featuring blush roses and greenery alongside formal attire.

If you’re planning a wedding, you’ve probably already realised just how quickly the costs can stack up: the venue, the dress, the food, the flowers… it all adds up fast. Among those bigger-ticket items, photography is often one of the more significant investments. And understandably, you might find yourself wondering if it’s really worth the price tag.

The short answer? Yes, and here’s why.

Once the confetti’s been thrown, the cake’s been eaten and your guests have gone home, your wedding photos are one of the only things you’ll have left to look back on. They’re not just a record of who was there and what you wore, they are how you’ll remember how your day felt. The nerves before the ceremony, the laughter during the speeches, the quiet little moments between the two of you that no one else saw.

So, into the big questions now… how much does wedding photography actually cost in the UK? And what exactly are you paying for when you book a professional? Let’s break it down.

WHAT'S THE AVERAGE COST OF WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY?

In the UK, the average cost of hiring a professional wedding photographer in 2025 falls somewhere between £1,000 and £2,000. It’s a wide range because there are so many factors involved, like how experienced the photographer is, how long they’re with you on the day, the style of their work, what’s included in the package, and where they’re based.

But averages only tell part of the story.

What really matters is finding someone whose work speaks to you, someone whose photos make you feel something, and who you feel completely comfortable around. You’ll be spending a lot of your day with your photographer, so that connection counts.

Here in Yorkshire, where I’m based, couples tend to spend a bit less than the national average, typically around £1,050 for full-day coverage, with most quotes ranging from £600 to £1,300. My full-day package is £1,295, which is close to the regional average, and it reflects the time, care, and creativity I pour into every wedding. If you're planning something a little smaller, my half-day package is £795, and for super-intimate weddings or elopements, the Short & Sweet package at £395 is ideal for just capturing the key moments.

I keep things flexible and straightforward because I want you to get the coverage that actually suits your day, no hidden fees or unnecessary extras. Get the coverage that feels right for you without any surprises.

WHY DO PHOTOGRAPHERS CHARGE WHAT THEY DO?

It’s easy to think of wedding photography as just turning up on the day, snapping some photos, and heading home. But the truth is, there’s so much more going on behind the scenes, before, during, and long after the wedding itself.

First, there’s all the preparation that happens in the lead-up. From getting to know you as a couple, helping with timeline planning, answering questions over email, to location scouting and checking light conditions. All of this ensures everything runs smoothly and you feel relaxed on the day.

Then there’s the wedding day itself. It might be eight, ten, even twelve hours of shooting, often without much of a break. We’re there capturing it all, from the quiet moments while you’re getting ready to the buzzing energy of the dance floor, constantly moving, thinking creatively, and making sure we don’t miss a thing.

After the wedding, the work continues with post-production, which often takes 30 to 50 hours (sometimes more!). Every image is carefully selected, edited, colour-corrected, and polished to make sure it tells the story of your day in the most beautiful, authentic way possible.

On top of that, there are the overheads you don’t always see; professional camera gear (which isn’t cheap), backup systems, editing software, insurance, travel, gallery hosting, and all the admin that goes into running a small business. All of these things are factored into the cost, so when you book a photographer, you’re not just paying for their time on the day, you’re investing in their time, expertise, and commitment to capturing your story properly.

WHAT DETERMINES THE COST OF A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY PACKAGE?

Above, we covered a few key things that influence how much a wedding photographer charges. First is coverage time, a full day from morning prep to evening dancing will naturally cost more than a few hours for a smaller ceremony. Then there’s experience and style, photographers with years of weddings under their belt often charge more for good reason. You’re also paying for post-production, the hours spent editing hundreds of photos so they look their best. Don’t forget gear, insurance, travel and admin time too, it all adds up behind the scenes. Understanding where your money goes can really help when it comes to choosing the right photographer for you.

HOW TO DECIDE WHICH PHOTOGRAPHY PACKAGE TO GO FOR

Choosing the right package really comes down to the kind of day you’re planning and what moments matter most to you.

If you’re having a full wedding day with a packed guest list, morning prep, speeches, and dancing into the night, my Full-Day package (£1,295) is likely the best fit, it gives you the whole story from start to finish.

If your day is shorter or more intimate, the Half-Day option (£795) covers all the key moments without the extras.

And for elopements or registry office ceremonies, the Short & Sweet package (£395) is perfect for capturing the essentials without going overboard. Think about what you’ll want to look back on, and what coverage will help you relive it all, then go from there.

And if you’re not sure, I’m always happy to chat it through with you.
