Elegant wedding bouquets featuring blush roses and greenery alongside formal attire.

If you have started planning your wedding, you have probably already discovered just how much prices can vary between suppliers, and wedding photography is no exception.

You might find one photographer offering coverage for a few hundred pounds and another charging several thousand. At first glance, it is not always obvious why there is such a difference or what you are actually getting for your money.

So how much should you expect to pay for wedding photography in the UK? What affects the price, and how do you decide which photography option is right for your wedding?

Let’s break it down.

WHAT DOES WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY COST IN THE UK?

Wedding photography prices can vary quite a lot depending on the photographer, where you are getting married, how much of the day you would like covered and what is included.

As a general guide, Bridebook's 2026 Wedding Report puts the average amount spent on wedding photography in the UK at around £1,484.

An average can be useful when you are starting to put together a wedding budget, but it only tells part of the story. Two photographers charging a similar amount could offer very different styles, levels of experience, coverage and packages.

It is worth looking beyond the price itself. Have a proper look through their work, find out what is included and think about whether their approach feels right for the kind of wedding you are planning.

You will also spend quite a lot of time around your photographer on the wedding day, so feeling comfortable with them matters too.

My Full Day wedding photography is currently £1,395, with Half Day coverage at £795 and Short & Sweet at £395 for smaller weddings and ceremonies.

Each option is designed around a different kind of wedding day, so you can choose the level of coverage that best suits what you have planned.

WHAT ARE YOU ACTUALLY PAYING FOR?

When you book a wedding photographer, you are paying for much more than the time they spend taking photographs on your wedding day.

There is work beforehand too. That includes getting to know your plans, answering questions, helping with timings where needed and making sure I have all the information I need before the wedding.

Then there is the wedding day itself. Photographing a wedding means constantly watching what is happening, anticipating moments, working with different lighting and locations and making decisions about where I need to be.

Some moments can be anticipated, like the ceremony, confetti or speeches. Others happen unexpectedly and might only last a couple of seconds. Experience plays a big part in recognising those moments and being ready for them.

The work continues after the wedding too. Your photographs need to be carefully selected and individually edited before your finished gallery is ready to be delivered.

There are also the less visible parts of running a professional photography business, including professional equipment and backups, insurance, editing software, gallery hosting and storing your photographs safely.

So when you look at the cost of wedding photography, you are paying for the complete service before, during and after the wedding, rather than simply the amount of time somebody has a camera in their hands.

WHAT AFFECTS THE COST OF WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY?

There are a few reasons why prices can vary so much between photographers.

HOW MUCH OF THE DAY IS COVERED

The amount of coverage you choose will usually have an impact on the price. Photographing everything from morning preparations through to the evening celebrations involves considerably more time than photographing a smaller part of the wedding.

That does not necessarily mean more coverage is always better. The right amount depends on the kind of day you are planning and which parts of it you would like photographed.

EXPERIENCE

Experience can affect pricing too.

Photographing weddings involves much more than knowing how to use a camera. Lighting changes throughout the day, timings move around, the weather does whatever it wants and important moments cannot simply be repeated if they are missed.

An experienced wedding photographer will have dealt with many of those situations before and know how to adapt when something changes.

WHAT IS INCLUDED

When comparing prices, have a look at what you are actually getting rather than comparing the figures alone.

Depending on the photographer and package, this could include things such as an online gallery, prints, albums, a second photographer, a pre wedding shoot or other extras.

Something included with one photographer might be an additional cost with another, so it is worth understanding exactly what each package includes.

TRAVEL

Where you are getting married can also affect the cost.

Some photographers include travel within a certain area, while longer journeys or weddings further away may involve additional travel or accommodation costs.

I am based in Leeds and photograph weddings across Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. If your wedding involves additional travel costs, I will let you know beforehand.

YOUR WEDDING DATE

Some photographers have different prices depending on the time of year or day of the week, particularly for dates outside the busiest parts of the wedding season.

Others use the same pricing throughout the year.

If you are considering a weekday or quieter season wedding, it can be worth asking the photographer how their pricing works rather than assuming the price will automatically be different.

WHICH PHOTOGRAPHY OPTION IS RIGHT FOR YOUR WEDDING?

Choosing the right amount of coverage is less about automatically going for the biggest option and more about thinking about which parts of your wedding you would like photographed.

For some couples, that means having the whole day documented from getting ready in the morning through to the celebrations in the evening. For others, the ceremony and the few hours around it are the part they care most about.

Here is how my three options differ.

FULL DAY

Full Day is for couples who want the wider story of their wedding captured, from the preparations in the morning through to the evening celebrations.

Before the wedding, we will go through your plans together so I know how the day is expected to run, which photographs are important to you and any details I need to be aware of. I can also help with things like photography timings and working out where family photos, couple photos and other parts of the day might fit naturally.

A pre wedding shoot is included too. It gives us a chance to spend some time together before the wedding, get you comfortable in front of the camera and show you how relaxed the photography can feel before the wedding day arrives.

Afterwards, you will receive 600+ individually edited photographs in an online gallery, along with a keepsake USB.

HALF DAY

Half Day is for couples who want the main part of their wedding documented rather than coverage from morning through to evening.

Which part of the day is covered will depend on your plans. For one wedding that might mean getting ready, the ceremony, family photographs and couple photos. For another, coverage might start later and continue through the ceremony and into the first dance.

We will still go through your plans beforehand so we can work out how to make the best use of the coverage and make sure the moments that matter most to you are included.

After the wedding, you will receive 300+ individually edited photographs in an online gallery and a keepsake USB.

SHORT & SWEET

Short & Sweet is designed for registry office weddings, intimate ceremonies and smaller celebrations where you mainly want the ceremony and the time around it photographed.

Depending on your plans, that could include guests arriving, the ceremony itself, confetti, a few family photographs and some relaxed photographs of the two of you afterwards.

You will receive 100+ individually edited photographs through your online gallery.

If you are not sure which option makes the most sense for your wedding, let me know what you have planned and I can help you work out which level of coverage would suit it best.

IS WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY WORTH THE COST?

Ultimately, this is something every couple has to decide based on what matters most to them and the budget they have available.

Your wedding photographs are one of the things that remain after the day itself. They give you a record of the moments you remember, but also plenty that you might not have seen happening at the time.

That could be the nerves before the ceremony, your guests seeing you for the first time, reactions during the speeches, people catching up over a drink or all the little interactions happening around you throughout the day.

For me, that is where the value of wedding photography really sits. It is not just about having photographs of how everything looked, but having a collection that brings together the people and moments that made the day yours.

When deciding how much you want to spend, think about how important photography is to the two of you, what you would like captured and the kind of photographs you would like to have afterwards.

LOOKING FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER?

There is no single amount you should spend on wedding photography. What matters is finding the right combination of photography you love, coverage that suits your plans and a photographer you feel comfortable having around on the day.

If you are planning a wedding in Yorkshire or further afield and like my relaxed, natural approach, I would love to hear more about what you have planned.
